We are very proud and pleased to announce our new sponsors for the Buddy’s Marathon at the Lanzarote International Marathon 2015 are Rancho Texas Park. The owner, Nicholás Lopez, has announced that the park will kindly cover all the costs of the Buddy’s Marathon. This will be a great boost for the publicity of Buddy’s Marathon as the park is one of the best loved and well known attractions on the island. This is excellent news as it will help with our aim of broadening the appeal of the marathon weekend to a much wider audience, including children and teenagers.

Just like the main marathon event, Buddy’s Marathon is split into four different distance categories:

  • 250 Meters – 0 – 6   years old
  • 800 Meters – 7 – 10 years old
  • 1,600 Meters – 11 – 14 years old
  • 2,400 Meters – 15 – 17 years old

Buddy’s Marathon takes place on Friday December 11th, the day before the main event. It is an excellent opportunity for younger runners to compete before they move up to the full marathon when they get older. The Lanzarote International Marathon is designed to be an event for all ages and abilities, and the Buddy’s Marathon is a part of this ethos. To register to take part you need to visit this page on the marathon website > http://www.lanzaroteinternationalmarathon.com/buddys-marathon/

Registration for this year’s Buddy’s Marathon will cost 1€ with all the money going to Izas, La Princesa Guisante, a charity that is dedicated to funding research towards the cure of a rare form of brain cancer.

Rancho Texas Park itself was first opened on the 29th November 2002, so it is has a long heritage on the island. It is the first theme park in Lanzarote, and one of the most popular attractions, attracting huge numbers of visitors through its gates every year. It is also owned by people of 100% Canarian heritage.

The two main values the park follows are:

  1. To reinvest its profits in improving the park and its facilities, and also collaborating with institutions and organizations such as Sands Beach Resort that are running events or campaigns, in order to create a positive impact for the people of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands.
  2. To only accept animals into the park that have been born into captivity, and therefore will have improved lives by living at the park here in Lanzarote. Many of the animals that live at the park have been involved in circus acts or other such entertainment environments which are often very cruel. At Rancho Texas Park they live in a caring, safe environment where they are well looked after.
